When structuring both sides, the position of the structures can be aligned with extreme precision at MICROMETAL. Single-sided chemical milling (to create a so-called half etch) and openings can be combined as needed. For instance, we are able to create capillary effects for fluids by etching extremely fine channels into the metal surface.

The minimum hole diameter can be as low as 80% of the material thickness. For example: Material with a thickness of 25 microns (0.001”) can have holes as small as 20 microns (0.0008”) in diameter (25 µm x 80% = 20µm). As a comparison, human hair has a diameter of approximately 60 microns (0.0024”).
